SDC employee story
I found out recently that I have become a victim of identity theft. I was shocked!!! My credit score should be 800 but I was told that I had a delinquent notice put on my credit report for $439 from Dish Network, which we don't have and never have had. I called the Dish Network Fraud Dept and they said that someone stole my SS# and used a variation of my first name and correct last name. This person was also in another state. Needless to say, it has been a pain trying to get it taken off of my credit report. I have had to prove that I lived at this address and that I am who I say I am. Crazy!!! Anyway, I did find out that we are entitled to one free credit report every 12 months from each of the credit reporting companies.....Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. It can be requested via mail, Internet, or by phone (1-877-322-8228). Go to www.annualcreditreport.com to order over the Internet. You need to call the number above and not the individual credit bureaus if you want to get one by phone.
Just thought this may help someone out there so they don't become a victim like me. We also have identity theft protection through Nationwide, which is only $50 a month, so that has come in handy too, as they have a company that is going to represent me in this mess.
Additional Note: Virginia Farm Bureau also has identity theft protection, and I'm sure many other insurance companies do too.
